On 29 October 2025, the Board concluded that Guatemala has achieved 'partly met with improvements' on government engagement (Requirement 1.1); 'mostly met' on industry and civil society engagement (Requirements 1.2 and 1.3); 'partly met' on MSG governance (Requirement 1.4); and ‘not met’ on Requirement 1.5 on work plan of the 2019 EITI Standard. The Board recommends that Guatemala remains suspended and that the country is validated under the 2023 EITI Standard, commencing on 1 April 2027.
The assessment of Guatemala's progress in implementing Requirement 1 of the EITI Standard commenced in January 2020. The assessment was mandated by the EITI Board in line with Board decision 2020-03 / BC-284.
