Sara Yun

Director, Bureau of Energy Resources, Office of Policy Analysis and Public Diplomacy, U.S. Department of State

Sara Yun assumed her position as the Director of the Office of Policy Analysis and Public Diplomacy in the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources in August 2024, leading the office responsible for multilateral energy diplomacy, energy market analysis, and strategic communications.  Prior to assuming her current position, she was the Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Shenyang, leading efforts to advance American diplomatic interests in Northeast China.  Other recent assignments include serving as a Senior Advisor in the State Department’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and as the Director for Global Economic Engagement on the National Security Council and the National Economic Council at the White House.  She is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service and her overseas assignments include Beijing, Ankara, Baghdad, and Shanghai.  She has received the State Department’s Superior Honor and Meritorious Honor Awards on multiple occasions. 

Ms. Yun has a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary in government and international studies.  She also earned master’s degrees from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in trade economics and from the National Defense University in strategic security studies.
