Kinross Gold

Founded in 1993, Kinross Gold is a gold mining company with a diverse portfolio of mines and projects in the United States, Brazil, Chile, Ghana, Mauritania, and Russia. The company is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

Kinross endorses the principles and criteria of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). Our operations in Ghana and Mauritania report into those countries' reporting systems, which have been determined by EITI to be fully compliant with the EITI principles and criteria.

Engagement with the EITI

Since the creation of the national committee in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast has always declared payments to the government through the independent expert in charge of the EITI annual report in Mauritania. In Ghana, through the subsidiary Chirano Gold Mines Ltd, the company has also provided its declaration of payments to government according to the EITI Standard.

In terms of international engagement, in 2017 Kinross sponsored an international workshop on 18th May at York University, Toronto, Canada called: “Evaluating EITI: Building on what we know to identify knowledge gaps”.


Strengthening transparency

Kinross reports annually under the Extractives Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) detailing its payments to governments on a country-by-country per payee basis.
