EITI launches three competitions ahead of Global Conference

Winners will be invited to attend the EITI Global Conference in June

In the lead-up to the EITI Global Conference to be held in Paris on 18 – 19 June, the International Secretariat has launched three competitions with the theme “Open Data, Build Trust,” inviting stakeholders and members of the public to demonstrate the impact of EITI implementation in their country.

The competitions offer an opportunity to leverage creative and innovative channels, using different types of media to express the relevance of natural resource transparency.

The Photo Competition aims to capture how the EITI is being implemented on the ground, how natural resource transparency benefits citizens and communities, and what extractives operations look like at the source. Judges will be assessing photo entries based on their subject matter, composition and adherence to the theme.

The Infographic Competition challenges contestants to present complex information in simple and engaging ways. Infographics should demonstrate how natural resource data is being collected, mainstreamed and used in order to build trust among different stakeholders, actors and communities at the national and subnational levels. Submissions will be assessed on their clarity, design and the overall story they tell. Contestants may draw inspiration from the 2013 winning infographic, which demonstrates how graphic design can be leveraged to showcase the EITI spirit and relevance in a manner that is accessible to a broader audience.

Finally, the saying that good things come in threes rings true with the EITI Impact Competition. A new addition this year, the competition challenges contestants to produce a concise and powerful narrative that illustrates how natural resource data is being used to build trust in their country. Judges will be looking for a narrative that conveys the relevance of the EITI at the national level, using language that is accessible and engaging to an external audience.

The deadline for submissions is 5 May, and one winner will be announced for each competition in early May.

The three winners will be invited and sponsored to attend the EITI Global Conference, the EITI’s flagship event. Strong submissions may also be featured in EITI communication materials, such as publications and the EITI website.
