Refinements to the 2019 EITI Standard

Process for refining the 2019 EITI Standard

Closing date

Description

The 9th EITI Global Conference in mid 2023 presents an opportunity to refine the EITI Standard. Based on the experience from implementing the EITI Standard and the lessons learned from Validation, there may be opportunities to improve and clarify the EITI Requirements. Refinements of the language in the EITI Standard could reaffirm current policy and practice and help strengthen implementation. They also give the EITI Board the opportunity to address ambiguities in the text of the EITI Standard.

Critical to this process is consultations with key stakeholders on the scope of refinements to the EITI Standard. Consultations on the scope of refinements to the EITI Standard were held in April 2022. A second round of consultations is scheduled for September / October 2022.

At the 53rd Board meeting in June 2022, the Board adopted the scope of refinements to the EITI Standard and agreed to convene a multi-stakeholder Working Group on Refinements to the EITI Standard. The Board will discuss refinements to the EITI Standard at its 54th and 55th meetings.

Application instructions

The deadline for this consultation is now closed.

About EITI

We believe that a country’s natural resources belong to its citizens. Our mission is to promote understanding of natural resource management, strengthen public and corporate governance and accountability, and provide the data to inform policymaking and multi-stakeholder dialogue in the extractive sector. By becoming a member of the Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), countries commit to disclose information along the extractive industry value chain – from how extraction rights are awarded, to how revenues make their way through government and how they benefit the public. Through participation in the EITI, more than 50 countries have agreed to a common set of rules governing what has to be disclosed and when – the EITI Standard. In each country that has joined the EITI, a multi-stakeholder group, composed of government, companies and civil society, supports implementation of the EITI Standard.
