Mining and metals companies

ERAMET

Eramet is a global mining and metallurgical group. It is a key player in the extraction and valorisation of metals (manganese, nickel, mineral sands) and the elaboration and transformation of alloys with a high added value (high-speed steels, high-performance steels, superalloys, aluminium and titanium alloys).

Eramet decided to join the EITI following the adoption of its Ethics Code in 2010. As a supporting company, Eramet takes every opportunity both internally and externally, to promote transparency in the extractive sector, as well as the benefits brought by the EITI. The EITI global standard and Eramet share the same goal: transparency as a principle of action.

Statement of Support

Engagement with the EITI

Eramet has operations in four EITI implementing countries: Senegal, Norway, Indonesia and Argentina. In Senegal, the company Grande Côte Operations (GCO) contributed to the preparation of the EITI country report. In 2018, Senegal was recognised as the first African country and the fourth country in the world to achieve satisfactory progress in implementing the EITI standard.

Strengthening transparency

In their annual report, Eramet discloses information regarding their payments to governments on a country-by-country basis. Eramet's payments to government reports are available on Eramet’s website.

With regards to the publication of mining contracts, pursuant to the EITI Standard, Eramet believes it is essential that the decision to publish is initiated and implemented by the countries, which are signatory parties to the contracts. As soon as a state wishes to make these contracts public and legal, commercial and confidentiality obstacles are removed, Eramet has expressed that it has no objection to the principle of publishing these contracts.
