Global Witness

Founded in 1993, Global Witness pioneered international attention on the links between natural resource exploitation, conflict and corruption. Expanding on nearly three decades of investigations and systems change, Global Witness is expanding its work to challenge abuses of power in order to protect human rights and secure the future of the planet.

Global Witness has fought to build accountability and transparency in the extractives sector throughout our entire existence. We are determined that together, through the EITI and other mechanisms, the ultimate accountability challenge and elephant in the room, the climate crisis, will now become a key focus of our work.

Engagement with the EITI

As co-founders of the Publish What You Pay campaign, Global Witness has been involved in the Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative since its inception and through all of its stages of development. This has included participation in the International Board, participation in the multistakeholder group in the United Kingdom, speaking at international meetings and the organisation of different events.

Global Witness works across the globe in all countries as appropriate and required. This involves working with partners in EITI countries, including those both within and external to multi-stakeholder groups.
