France
The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) determines and implements France’s foreign policy. Its priorities are to take action in the world for peace, security and human rights and to promote French businesses abroad in foreign markets. It also works to ensure the ongoing presence of France’s ideas, language and culture and providing security and administrative services for French nationals abroad.
France is honoured to have hosted the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Conference in 2019! France will increase its multilateral and bilateral funding and continue to advocate for more transparency and accountability.
Engagement with the EITI
France has been supporting the EITI since 2005 and has contributed to the financing of the EITI International Secretariat since 2007. France hosted two EITI Global Conferences: 5th Global Conference in March 2011 and the 8th Global Conference in June 2019 in Paris. Both Conference were held at the OECD Conference Centre. As a supporting country, France regularly has a seat on the EITI Board. It last served on the EITI International Board in 2019.

Support for EITI implementing countries
On 23 July 2020, France signed an agreement with the World Bank for the contribution of EUR 5M from 2020-2025 to the Extractives Governance Programmatic Support (EGPS) trust fund. France is also supporting EITI implementation in Niger through a four-year project (2020-2023) led by the French Development Agency (AFD).
Other bilateral projects in the field of extractives governance are benefitting EITI implementing countries such as support for the formalization of artisanal mining in Burkina Faso and transparency of gold supply chains in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
