Southern Copper

Southern Copper Corporation is a mining company that was founded in 1952. The company specialises in producing copper, molybdenum, zinc, lead, coal and silver. Southern Copper's mining, smelting and refining facilities are located in Peru and Mexico.

Actively involved in the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Peru since 2005, Southern Copper has embraced the fundamental commitments of the initiative to bolster transparency in the way it carries out its business. Southern Copper Corporation is convinced that payments of taxes, royalties and other commitments by Southern Copper Corporation to the national government make a positive difference in the country’s economic outcome.

Engagement with the EITI

Southern Copper played an important role in Peru's process in achieving meaningful progress in implementing the EITI Standard in 2012. The company is a member of the multi-stakeholder group (MSG) in Peru and has participated in EITI reporting since 2007. Similarly, Southern Copper has been an active member of the MSG in Mexico since Mexico became an EITI implementing country in October 2017.

At an international level, Carlos Aranda, Manager Technical Services, represents Southern Copper Corporation on the EITI Board 2019-2022 as part of the company constituency.
