ArcelorMittal is a leading steel and mining company, with a presence in 60 countries and primary steelmaking facilities in 18 countries. The company’s goal is to help build a better world with smarter steels.

ArcelorMittal is a member and supporter of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) as it offers both consistency, good governance of disclosure and contributes to strengthening the principles of accountability, fair competition and good governance. The EITI brings together a number of players ranging from civil society, host governments and the private sector; it aims to create stable economic and political conditions on which to further build the longer-term sustainability of a country.

Engagement with the EITI

The company supported the establishment of the Liberian EITI (LEITI) in 2009 and is an active member of the Liberian multi-stakeholder group (MSG). ArcelorMittal also supports the implementation of the EITI Standard in Kazakhstan through their membership in the association of mining and metallurgical industry.

The company was a member of the EITI International Board from 2013-2016 and it actively participates in the EITI mining sub-constituency forum, managed by the ICMM. 


Strengthening transparency

ArcelorMittal has published its 2019 report on payments to governments. The payments to governments report are available for download here.

ArcelorMittal has been part of the creation of ResponsibleSteel™, the steel industry’s global multi-stakeholder sustainability performance standard and certification initiative. The company also implements the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA - third-party verification and certification standard).
