The United Kingdom
Engagement with the EITI
Previously as the Department for International Development (DFID), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office provided financial support to the EITI International Secretariat and the Extractives Global Programmatic Support (EGPS) Multi-Donor Trust Fund, as well as broader support through global initiatives and country-level programmes.
During 2020 FCDO has funded the UK’s contribution to EITI as a supporting country. FCDO also contributes funding to the Data Transparency Project which focuses on specific barriers to development linked to corruption and the limitations on a country’s ability to benefit from their own resources. The UK is also active in supporting the international EITI Board.
Support for EITI implementing countries
FCDO is funding EITI to implement beneficial ownership and commodity trading transparency in Myanmar, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Tanzania and Afghanistan so that these countries may benefit from their natural resources in an accountable and transparent way.
